The Bike

My Sierra Cascades bike is a 52cm Surly Disc Trucker.  This is the disc brake version of the venerable Long Haul Trucker.  It is by far the heaviest bike that I own and weighs in at something between 75-85 lbs when fully loaded!

It is an all steel frame which helps absorb some of the road shock when pedaling along all day and is set up to mount and carry just about anything you can think of.  The long wheel base makes for a very stable and comfortable ride and it has been great fun to ride in preparation for the Sierra Cascades.

The triple chainring and very low gearing makes the loaded weight of the bike less intimidating than it might be otherwise but it is still quite a bit of work when the road grade gets steep.
